THAMALAKANE RIVER OVERFLOWS
Residents of Maun and surrounding villages have been warned to be cautious of the flowing Thamalakane River. The warning came from the Maun Police station commander, Superintendent Kenny Badumetse in an interview with BOPA. He appealed to the general public to take care of themselves as well as monitoring their children and livestock, as the flowing river brings many reptiles and other dangerous animals.
Supt Badumetse also cautioned the public to be vigilant to avoid incidents of drowning and being attacked by crocodiles, which has been happening in the past two years. He said some of the crocodiles, which escaped at Sitatunga crocodile camp are still roaming in the river. Some have been located at Shashe Bridge along the Maun-Sehithwa road at a spot popularly known as ‘The Beach’ where many the residents and passersbys frequent for leisure.
